HISTORY:

Tenshinkan Aikido Club was founded in 1989 by one of Norway's leading aikidokas, Bjørn Eirik Olsen, as part of a Japanese Culture Centre in Oslo. Tenshinkan translates: 'Heavenly/original truth' or 'original mind'. The dojo was given it's name by Suganuma Sensei, who had been Olsens teacher during a two year period when he was living in Fukuoka. Suganuma Sensei is the head of the Shohei Juku Aikido Dojo, which consists of nearly 100 dojos in southern Japan.

Members of our dojo has regular contact with Suganuma Sensei, as he regularely teaches at the Norwegian Aikido Association (NAF) summer school.

Later, Bjørn Eirik Olsen moved from Oslo to Tokyo for four years, and then to Tromsø. Tenshinkan still has regular contact with Bjørn Eirik Olsen and other Senseis that practice with related approaches to Aikido.
